Why I allow Yashi my daughter to help me in household chores
Hello Friends,
Dish CleaningWelcome to my blog. As you all can see topic of this blog itself a question. It is not understand by everyone why I do this? Yashi is a little girl why I am allowed her to help me in my household chores. Sometimes people ask me why I allow her in kitchen?
So that’s my belief if she helps me in my household chores. It’s not really a household chores for her. She enjoys it like a role play. She helps me with little-little thing like dusting, clean her room, putting things on their places etc. And even sometimes she loves to help me in kitchen too.
As you seen on my Instagram post where she was preparing chapaties for herself. You clearly seen how happy she was.
- How confident she was
- How much she was enjoying that task
- How eagerly she was learning
- Excitement of doing something new
- Sense of achievement and proud feeling after complete her task
Here what I want to tell you that doing household chores has many benefits for kids. It teaches them responsibility for their own tasks. To take ownership of their own tasks. When they complete that chore and doing them well. That will enhance their sense of self-esteem and give them sense of their own competence.
Through this little help they can see what the “Grownups” world looks like. They feel that they are part of your world. Now most families are nuclear, just mom, dad and kids. We parent sometimes got busy with our life, work and problems. And we forget about that our kids sometimes feel neglected. We do not do this intentionally. No parent can do this intentionally to their kids. But in Grown up World, we have our own problems.
As a housewife, I am always busy with my household chores. I love to do my work by myself. I never had a maid or any helper when Yashi was toddler. Because of my severe health issues, sometimes Yashi was feeling lonely. I understand the problem and I observe her nature and the changes she is going through. Then I reached to a conclusion that what she and I can do together. Spend more time together. Then I realize that she loves to help me with little-little household chores like putting things in places, bring me vegetables and fruits from the fridge etc.
So, I decide that if she want to help me, I will never stop her. I include her my household chores. And believe me my that trick worked. She loves to help me, she feels proud, when she completes her task.
If you are thinking that you have a maid and other helps for you. Why your kid to do you help with your household tasks. I am not saying that it is necessary thatโs just my observation as a mother. I am not saying that your kid should starts early. You can start them of with small tasks at the age of 3-4 years. And one thing always keeps in mind that the job you allocate to your child are not age appropriate. Give them easy and fun task, not too tough. They will be busy. If you give them tough task it will destroy their fun part.
Here I wants to explain, at what age child do tasks. This will you an idea of what task kid can be expected to help out with a different age. As a parent we always keep in mind that all kids not be the same. Never compare your kid with others. If you want to read out negative impact of comparison with your kids. Read this blog.
Because not all kids are same some can handle task easily, understand easily. On the other hand, some may need some more time, patience and guidance. It’s our job to help them. Understand that they have a role to play within household task too.
When Yashi was 3-5 years. When Yashi was that age I told her to put her toys properly, put her plate and cup in kitchen after eating. So, at this age you can teach kids like….
- Put their toys in place by their own
- Put their books in place by their own
- Put their own plate and bowl in kitchen after eating
- Let them put on their own shoes
Now Yashi is 6 years old and here are some household tasks she helped me…
Yashi Moping- Folding her clothes
- Arrange her cupboard
- Watering the plants
- Dusting
- Sometime she loves to help me in kitchen
- She loves to help me prepare her cupcakes
- She loves to decorate her cookies
- She can dress herself
- She loves to set a dinner table with me
Literally I want to say that she wants to help me in my every household task but as a mother I know what can she can do. So, I only give those tasks which can she easily complete.
I always give her reward when she completes her task. Sometimes that depends what she wants. Like story time, play doll house with her, go out park, take her for cycling and tea party with her etc.
No chocolates and money for rewards.
This is my personal experience as a mother. So, it is my advice as a mother, so let them do your little help with their little-little hands.
Their little hand makes your task more colourful and joyful. I hope this blog helps you.
Take care mommies….
